Uncovering Potential. Restoring Dignity. Empowering the Future.
In the heart of the Kyangwali Refugee Settlement, a new story is being written — one of hope, resilience, and untapped potential. Kyangwali Refugees Got Talent is a transformative talent development initiative under DJ Grin Youth Impacts Africa Foundation, designed to uplift refugee youth by recognizing their creative gifts and turning them into pathways for empowerment, healing, and opportunity.
This isn’t just a talent show, it’s a movement of expression, self-discovery, and community transformation.
The Vision
To empower young refugees by providing them with a safe and inclusive platform to showcase their talents, gain confidence, and access life-changing opportunities in the arts, entertainment, and creative industries.
Objectives for the Program
- Identify and nurture talent among refugee youth in music, dance, poetry, drama, art, and storytelling.
- Promote mental health and psychosocial support through creative expression.
- Build confidence, leadership, and self-worth among young refugees.
- Link talented youth with mentors, training opportunities, and talent development agencies.
- Create income-generating pathways through talent monetization, brand partnerships, and content creation.
- Foster community unity and peaceful coexistence through shared artistic experiences.
Why This Matters
In refugee communities, talent is abundant, but opportunity is scarce. Many young people live in trauma, boredom, or despair, unable to fully express themselves or imagine a future beyond survival.
Kyangwali Refugees Got Talent gives them more than a stage — it gives them a voice, a vision, and a viable future.
Through this initiative, refugee youth are:
- Reclaiming their identity and dignity
- Gaining visibility beyond the settlement
- Developing essential life skills like teamwork, public speaking, and leadership
- Finding healing and joy through art
- Building hope, both for themselves and their communities
Our Approach
- Talent Auditions & Community Mobilization
We conduct open auditions within the settlement to scout for talent, engage communities, and ensure inclusion across age, gender, and cultural lines. - Capacity Building & Mentorship
Short-term training sessions in performance skills, stage presence, and confidence-building led by local and regional artists, coaches, and mentors. - Showcasing & Exposure
We organize talent showcases, music and drama competitions, art exhibitions, and media coverage to give participants visibility and public engagement. - Post-Event Support
Selected participants receive further support through enrollment in creative workshops, business skills training, and connection to partners in the creative sector.
